Mother’s Day Lessons from Mrs. Zebedee

The mother of James and John is a resourceful lady whose outlandish petitions seems to betray the secret expectations she held for her w_hutchins_sm.jpgsons.  She was a lady who was sure that her sons, James and John, would in fact hold highly regarded positions of responsibility and authority within the new kingdom Jesus of Nazareth was establishing.

The first lesson to learn from Mrs. Zebedee is that she prayed earnestly that her sons might be part of the Kingdom of Jesus Christ.  Each one of us, as God fearing parents, should pray first and foremost for our children to be a part of the vibrant and dynamic work Jesus is doing in the earth right now.

The second lesson we learn from Mrs. Zebedee is that she prayed that her sons would be involved in the work of His Kingdom.  You see, its not enough just to be saved.  Churches are full of content people.  We need people who are actively involved in the work of God’s Kingdom.

The third lesson we learn from Mrs. Zebedee is that she had huge expectations.  She didn’t pray that they would have any common position within the Kingdom work, but she had huge expectations that they would be on the right hand and on the left hand of God Himself. The love of a mother carries with it expectations of excellence for her children.

We thank God for all of our mothers who are praying those specific prayers over their children.  May we claim the honor of God upon our children in this hour.
