It Could Be Today

[Andrew] first found his own brother Simon, and said to him, “We have found the Messiah” (which is ricky_individual_picture_2006_002_edited-1.jpgtranslated, the Christ). John 1:41

Just so you'll know ... my propensity to develop inspirational thoughts from songs I have heard is not limited to songs from Bon Jovi alone! Some time ago, I was listening to Country music artist Tim McGraw’s hit single “Live Like You Were Dying” - which was a number one hit in 2004. The song tells the story of a man faced with a terminal disease and how he chooses to spend his final days on earth: sky diving, bull riding, fishing, and mountain climbing. And then ... as many would do in the same situation ... he also begins to read the Bible, and release forgiveness to those who had wronged him.

Regardless of what kind of music you listen to - the fact of the matter is that the song has a certain amount of truth for all of us. We are all facing the Terminal Disease called death and that should keep us motivated to use our time wisely and productively.

And yet, the Christian has an even more urgent deadline approaching: the Rapture of the church when Jesus Christ will return to call those who are His to meet Him in the sky. The Bible says that event could happen today. Can I ask you today ... If you lived today as if it were your last day on earth, what would you do differently, who would you forgive, what would you try that you were always afraid to do, would you spend more time than normal with your kids and how much time would you spend in prayer? Most importantly, who would you tell about Jesus? Who would you urge to repent of their sins and receive God’s forgiveness if you knew that Jesus’ return was just a few hours away?

The truth is, His return is nearer now than it was yesterday - and it could be today. Who is it that is waiting for you to share the Good News of the Gospel with them before it is too late? Whose life can you save by showing them who Jesus Christ is to you? Are you living your life as if He could return at anytime?

Beware of the urgent crowding out the important.Charles E. Hummel
