“How beautiful upon the mountains are the feet of him…that saith unto Zion, Thy God reigneth!”
These words were spoken by the Prophet of God concerning the message of the coming Messiah, and are used today with reference to gospel preachers. The Apostle Paul said, “How then shall they call on Him in whom they have not believed? And how shall they believe in Him in whom they have not heard? And how shall they hear without a preacher? And how shall they preach except they be sent? As it is written, how beautiful are the feet of them that preach the gospel of peace, and bring glad tidings of good things!”
The feet of the righteous suggest beauty in contrast to the feet of the ungodly, which perish in untimely ends because they “walked in the counsel of the ungodly.” The feet of the upright walk in straight paths, abiding in the tabernacle of their joy, which is the sanctuary of the Most High God. The feet of the righteous are like “hinds feet” which have abilities to climb the mountains of life and scale what appear to some as insurmountable circumstances.
Beautiful feet are stunning because of the message they carry. The prophet uses four different expressions to describe the message of the gospel.
- First, he calls it “good tidings.” This is the meaning of the word “gospel.”
- Second, he calls it a “publication of peace,” these are the “good will ambassadors…”
- Third, they bring “good tidings of good,” and
- Fourth, they “publish salvation,” they carry a message of deliverance and victory! Just as the cold waters are refreshing to a thirsty soul, so is the good news of salvation to a dying sinner.
God grant to us all who are called according to His purpose, a zeal to share the One Message we are equipped to carry, the “beautiful message” that makes for “beautiful feet.”
This week, find someone to share the "good news of Jesus Christ" which works in you - your story! Make Jesus real through your testimony!
